FRENCH PRESIDENT SARKOZY SAYS HE WILL QUIT POLITICS IF HE LOSES ELECTIONS

(REUTERS – 8TH MARCH) French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday (March 8) said he would quit politics if he loses presidential elections on April 22 and May 6, as opinion polls widely predict.

In an interview with RMC radio station Sarkozy was asked by his interviewer if he would abandon politics in the event of a loss. “Yes,” he said. When pressed for a longer answer, Sarkozy added: “You can ask the question a third time, but I am saying to you: yes.”

Many opinion polls show Sarkozy trailing his Socialist rival Francois Hollande by as much as eight points in the second round of voting on May 6. The first round of the elections takes place on April 22.
