SOUTHWESTERN PARTS OF CHINA PARCHED BY DROUGHT, LEAVING 5.5 MILION PEOPLE AND APROXIMATELY 3 MILLION LIVESTOCK WITH SHORTAGE OF WATER

While heavy rainstorms battered the southeastern part of China, the southwestern areas have been parched by a drought.

State media CCTV said, the drought severely affected China's southwest Guizhou province, leaving 5.5 million people, and about 3 million livestock with a water short.

CCTV footage, showed firefighters getting water out of caves, and distributing IT to the residents.

China's Xinhua news agency said, the dry weather condition began last July, affecting hundreds of reservoirs and rivers.

The agriculture ministry said, the drought threatened the harvest of corn and late-season rice, due to insufficient rain.

The drought prompted two villagers to venture into a cave to hunt for water, but ended up trapped.

CCTV footage, showed them being pulled out of the cave by rescuers.
